I've been saying for time time now (though, if in a post in my own journal, inadequately tagged [edit it was here]) that there's no such thing as "old school" Doctor Who and "new school" Doctor Who, but rather that there's 20th century Doctor Who and Russell T. Davies Doctor Who and we can't generalize about 21st century Doctor Who till we see what trends of Davies' are continued by his successors.

Trend one: Doctors in contemporary clothes (SPOILERS).

Now I can go back and edit my cartoons with the new incarnation to be wearing his real costume.

Hrm. I tend to think of Who as existing on a continuum. Recently I was watching the first Doctor episodes, and it changed dramatically between its first and second seasons. And comparing the first Doctor's episodes to the third or fourth, and it's a completely different show again. Seems like the only continuity is change.

Eleven's costume is rather Giles-ish, don't you think?

My first thought was "Not contemporary, but at the same time, not Edwardian". Apparently, now that we're in a shiny new century, the Doctor's "period" wardrobe has been allowed to move to the 1930s.

(Then again, Sylv's pullover was fairly 1950s.)
