When I first imported over from LJ, I "subscribed" to a lot of LJs I'd been following because I thought that was how they and/or their Dreamwidth counterpart would feed onto my Reading page. This was mistaken. By the time I realized I need to subscribe/request access to Dreamwidth journals, I had moved on from the project, and since then it has sat on my To Do list with other things I don't think I'll get to until Providence gives me back the eighteen hours a week I spend riding the bus right now. So if you're a mutual on any other platform and/or formerly LJ but I haven't accessed you yet here it's not because I don't mean to.

I thought I was going to finalize my move from LJ to DW* over the weekend, but the combination of the Doctor Who season premiere and an unusual amount of stairs and stooping on Saturday wiped me out. Next weekend then.

*I should be able to refer to Dreamwidth as "DW" without confusing anyone because I never call Doctor Who that.

Crossposted from Dreamwidth, where I am also scarfman, and will continue to be scarfman when I am no longer scarfman here.

My entries finished importing to Dreamwidth Monday and my comments finished Tuesday, an hour ago according to the status page. I'm posting this to cap the import story and to test the crosspost to LJ I just set up. I still intend to delete my LJ on principle (see my first entry on the new TOC), but first I'll import the entries and any comments from since I started the first import, which shouldn't take nearly as long as there'll be only a week of'em and mostly Twitter mirror posts. If Dreamwidth does Twitter mirror posts I haven't figured it out yet. I haven't decided whether I'll still do Friday morning Hero of Three Faces and Creative Process posts; we'll all find out together the first Friday I no longer have an LJ. I haven't figured out whether DW limits tags on unpaid accounts like LJ does.

I suppose before I delete my LJ I better search DW for everyone on my LJ friendslist who has the same username over here. Two of you already subscribed to me - thanks. One of you I expect to friend at Facebook now, because I only never did before because your Facebook is primarily LJ crossposting.

I think I've decided not to import qtrhorserider's LJ before deleting it. Surely anyone who'd have a serious disagreement with that would have had reason to contact me on some other important matter sometime over the past two years, eight months and one day.
Edit That calculation was incorrect. For most of my life when I've done this trick I've been counting days (actually, usually to the hour) from the day of my marriage, and this time I counted from the tenth of the month when it ought to have been the seventeenth. It ought've been two years, seven months and twenty-four days.

I started my LiveJournal-to-Dreamwidth import at 22:00 Saturday. Now. at about 14:30 Sunday, the status page is reporting six of the eight categories of imported elements were “successfully finished” instantly or almost, Journal Entries have been waiting in the queue for sixteen hours, and Journal Comments is waiting for Entries to finish. I saw commentary on Tumblr linking to a page where Dreamwidth says if there's as much as 1000 in the queue it can take more'n two days. There's prolly even more'n that in the queue now, cuz that’ll be everyone who like me made the decision this week but decided to wait till the weekend.

I've decided not to be surprised if this takes a week. Then of course I'll have to import this week's LJ entries before the operation's actually complete. So This Isn't Goodbye.

I plan to do my export overnight, cuz I hear tell there's a lot of traffic and they take awhile.

If I'm going to export to archive, maybe I should do it with [livejournal.com profile] qtrhorserider's LJ too.
scarfman: (scarfman)
Maybe I'll just delete. Maybe not. There's still stuff in my LJ I link back to occasionally, or reread for my own interest.

Maybe I'll export-to-Dreamwidth-and-delete for archival purposes but stop updating. I'm not sure I have a lot of attachment still to this forum. The situation calls for some reevaluation but I don't have the energy for that during the week.

I agreed to the new LJ terms and conditions without reading the translation of the T&Cs, but it bugged me that I couldn't sign in without clicking that. Come to find out, you can't even delete your blog if you don't want to agree but you also don't want your intellectual property here any more. The person whose account about this I read tried to chase down a contact link and still hadn't received an answer from the one they found. Looks like the time has finally come when I'll be moving over to Dreamwidth or whatever it is that's abbreviated DW, and I'll be deleting this journal when I go just on principle. As of today there isn't another scarfman there so that's who I expect to be.

  • Wed, 21:03: And LJ tweetposting is back. I wonder how long it'll last this time.

After five days the Twitter mirroring stops again.
scarfman: (scarfman)
Hm. Something's going on with Twitter, man. LJ won't generate Twitter mirror entries and the button to tweet Tumblr entries has gone inactive. I've poked at the settings in all three places and I have no idea why nothing's working.
