Influence

I've been wondering how much my voice in these journal posts is influenced by that of demiurgent, the only person yet to move me to employ the phrase "favorite essayist". Quite a lot, it seems to me, when I'm editing them. It makes me wonder whether my own voice comes through. I suppose this is the reason I posted the bio byte about being locked in the basement* (as opposed to all the namedropping in it). That story well predates any such influence, particularly the turn of phrase "'Right for tight, left for loose' (unlike Arthur Dent, I listened to what my mother told me when I was young)", which dates from my contemporary accounts of the incident, of which I am particularly fond, and which was the primary conscious motivation for writing the story here. Anyway, the issue's of interest to me since I seem to be doing a lot of actual blogging lately.

His style is so pervasive that I've found myself using elements of it, too. The very fact that it's so accessible and comfy is a large part of why we enjoy his writing so much, I think - or maybe that's just me.

Still, your thoughts are clearly your own, and your style comes through as well.
