Episode VII: The Battle for Coruscant
In the years since the death of Emperor Palpatine, resistance against the the Rebel Alliance, now the Army of the New Republic, has largely fallen away.
While some of the outermost Imperial regional governors remain loyal to the Emperor, the core of continuing Imperial power has been forced to retreat to the galactic capitol planet Coruscant, defended under the leadership of Imperial General Ior, the Sith lord Darth Tristas.
Meanwhile the last Jedi knight Luke Skywalker has formed a small band of Jedi adepts as trainees - including his own niece and nephew, Jaina and Jacen.
As the Republican forces encroach on Coruscant, finally winning the last of Coruscant's twelve moons and establishing a seige, Captain Skywalker receives another visit from that ancient ally of the Jedi, the time-traveler known only as the Doctor ...
There's bad news, and there's bad news
Feb. 17th, 2009 07:39 pmI'm no good at hunting for a job while I actually have one. As it happens, that obstacle will be gone after next Tuesday.
I've mentioned in passing in this space that on Veterans Day the place where I work announced to its employees it was closing at the beginning of March, which a week ago was bumped about ten days early. It's a mixed curse. There's a lot I'm not happy with about the position. It's telephone customer service, and the shift I'm on is 05:30-14:00. I took the shift so I could go to classes in the afternoons, but I am not a morning person. There's a quota to meet for not creating service visit orders, and I have difficulty meeting it. And I think I'd be better off in a position where I don't spend all the time in a cubicle without any contact with others but phone calls from people I'll never talk to again; I need to get back into office work until I zonker into computer science. But given how much I hate jobhunting, if not for the closing I'd've stayed in this position until I'd got fired for the service job quota issue (might not have lasted this long). I ought've left my last job before I did, too.
qtrhorserider has been more agitated about this than I, at least until recently when she researched out that there are affordable options for health insurance if I shouldn't find a new position right away. For "right away" read "after the separation package money runs out"; they did offer a nice incentive for those of us who have stuck it out to the end, including insurance coverage for the time that the separation pay lasts if we send the payments to the insurance company ourselves.
Well, I say I'm not agitated about it, but the last week or so I've had this twitch in my lower right eyelid. That happens to me occasionally, and I suspect it's stress- and sleep-deprivation- related. Actually the only reason I'm writing about it here is because I'm curious whether it's always the same eyelid and want to look back here the next time it happens.
