Back in the saddle?

DirecTV is doing a series of tv ads in which they get movie stars (or in one case a football star) back into costume and makeup, and electronically re-insert them into scenes from their classic films so they can turn to the camera and pitch DirecTV. The latest one features William Shatner in scenes from Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country. When the YouTube version of the ad popped up on startrek, it was suggested that Bill had redubbed lines but not actually shot any new footage. I couldn't tell from watching YouTube what the lip-synching was like. But last night I saw the ad on my HDTV, and I say the lipsynching and the whole performance are too organic to be CGI. If I believed CGI was that good five years ago I'd've believed there was no real Britney Spears, and I still don't believe it's that good. I say Bill got out his old uniform and his old toupee and they both still fit.

But I did save the DVRed House rerun where I saw the ad, just so I could watch the ad again, so I shall be giving it another look.
