I've seen that ad with Shatner. I suspect that he put on the uniform, recorded some new lines, and they airbrushed his face a bit to make him look younger and fit in with the footage a bit better. Or maybe they spliced his mouth speaking new words into old closeups of Kirk on the bridge.
There is something funny about his face when he's doing the advertising spiel. If you just look at his eyes, or at the scenery, where it's expected you'll look when you're watching something like that, you don't notice.
