In [livejournal.com profile] fandomsecrets today one anon complains of missing the days when fanfiction did not equal porn. More than one commenter has responded, in so many words, "I've been reading fanfiction for ten years and it's always been that way"...

Having stated, when I posted about [livejournal.com profile] fandomsecrets, that I don't keep secrets, I feel compelled to make this followup post.

As I continued to go through the community archives and read each day's new post, I noticed that the secrets I enjoyed and remember most aren't the ones about the fandoms I'm in. They're not the ones with opinions I agree with. They're the ones with true sex stories*.

I went on to discover from [livejournal.com profile] fandomsecrets's profile page that the "secrets" format comes from the community [livejournal.com profile] ljsecret, where I discovered an even higher ratio of sex-related secrets. I lost interest in the [livejournal.com profile] fandomsecrets archives, though I still read each new post; and have started going through the [livejournal.com profile] ljsecret archive instead and reading new [livejournal.com profile] ljsecrets posts as they arrive. And sometimes to entertain myself I draft made up secrets (with no desire to post them).

I think that the reason I draw privately-circulated fanfiction cartoons for grownups is to compensate my id for having had an unadventurous adolescence. My interest in [livejournal.com profile] ljsecret appears to be another symptom of the same thing.

In my [livejournal.com profile] fandomsecrets post I offered some examples of typical secret types. Here's some paraphrasures from memory of [livejournal.com profile] ljsecret and [livejournal.com profile] fandomsecrets secrets that stuck in my mind. Cut for adult content )

* For a value of "true" equal to "anything on the internet is statistically guaranteed to be partially comprised of trolling".

Through my flist I discovered [livejournal.com profile] fandomsecrets. It's a community for anonymous postings of graphics that anonymously confess what you can't bring yourself to tell your fandom. I'm addicted. I'd love to contribute, but I don't keep any secrets. (I draw fanfiction cartoons for grownups I only circulate privately, but I don't keep secret that I do it.)

So here's a composite sampling of things people post there; in other words, I'm making up representative samples. Maybe you'll enjoy it too. Cut for adult content )
