I was reading [livejournal.com profile] gordon_r_d's scan of DWM's comic's 40th anniversary special and it occurred to me that I'd never written a proper Doctor team up. I'd put two or more Doctors in a story but kept them separated, or I'd put the Doctor into time-reverse fields so that he kept morphing into past incarnations, but I'd never put more than one of him onstage simultaneously - oh wait, I did it once.

The first time I posted fanfiction to the internet with the intention of doing it on a weekly schedule was on alt.drwho.creative in 1997. The hot community activity in the newsgroup at the time was the roundrobin story. You'd sign up to write a chapter and when your turn rolled around you'd labor to leave the next guy on the list with a worse cliffhanger than you'd got stuck with. I'd either already participated in one or two of these or had become familiar with the form from reading them. I decided for my own weekly project to write bogus roundrobin chapters from stories I had no intention of completing, and making them funny and calling them "satire episodes" so I could collect them on my website and claim fair use if copyright cops came calling. This was the first one. It also utilizes the contemporary alt.drwho.creative convention of assuming that Grace Holloway did after all elect to travel with the Doctor after the events of Season 1996.
