Sep. 30th, 2019 08:10 pmWe loved Roseanne in the 90s but I didn't watch the revival for reasons that are probably obvious to anyone following this blog, and I don't plan to watch The Connors only because I hardly watch much tv any more. But I did watch a few minutes of video online of Goodman and Gilbert discussing the upcoming season because both of them remain favorites of mine from those days. And I can't help but remember the story I read somewhere ten or fifteen years ago about the first iteration of Roseanne, when Barr was a controversal figure for entirely opposite reasons. The network was trying to get rid of her and "this was the era when Valerie Harper was fired off of her own show" (Harper got fired off of Valerie and it became The Hogans or something). So the network went to Goodman and Metcalf and asked whether they'd continue if Barr was fired and they refused and Barr was grateful for that (I think I read it in an interview with Barr and Arnold while they were still married). So now I'm watching Goodman talking about his character still wearing his wedding ring in mourning and thinking "been there, doing that" and "damn he really is at least ten years older'n I am" but mostly "poor woman really musta crossed a line this time"
