I want to see Ghostbusters remade with Marx Brothers impersonators. Groucho as Venkman, Chico as Spengler, Harpo as Stantz, Zeppo as Zeddemore, Margaret Dumont as Dana. All you'd have to do to the script is remove Stantz' lines.

"I have lots of people waiting to abuse me."

"That-a would have worked if-a you hadn't-a stopped me."

I don't know where the Friday Five questions originate every week. I saw this week's at [livejournal.com profile] arjuna_lj and decided to respond when I realized what my first answer is.

1. If you were going to remake a movie, what would it be and who would you cast in the roles?
Ghostbusters, recast with Marx Brothers impersonators, and Margaret Dumont as Dana.

2. If you could turn a book into a movie, what would it be and who would you cast in the roles?
a. The Mote in God's Eye. Alan Alda's got too old for Renner but I might cast him anyway; if not, maybe Matt Perry? Ben Kingsley'd be a great Bury. So would F. Murray Abraham. David Ogden Stiers as Senator Fowler (Can you tell I shadowcast this with M*A*S*H characters when I was young?).
b. My mother's published novel, Bernadette Black. Tim Russ as Lee? Omar Epps? Bradley Whitford as Quinn. I'd play the psychologist on the review panel.

3. If you were going to turn a video game into a movie, what would it be? Would it be animated or live-action?
Um. I don't play video games. I've heard Knights of the Old Republic is pretty good. I'd make that into a movie.

4. You're going to turn a book into a TV series. What is it? Why would it make a good TV show?
A more faithful adaptation of Doctor Dolittle than the movie screen has managed yet (that includes the 70s Saturday morning cartoon which was obviously derived from the 1968 movie). Maybe I'd spend a year each adapting Lofting's books; maybe I'd do new episodic stories set after they got back from the moon.

5. Do you generally prefer the movie versions or the novel versions of works?
I think I judge each on their own merits. King Arthur has taught me to love seeing new treatments of familiar stories whether in new media or the same one.
