When I posted my link praising this particular AKOTAS strip, I didn't say all the things I wanted to, because I didn't want to spoil the body slam of the final panel.
So, I'm gonna say them HERE.
You managed, in a single strip, to turn the ENTIRETY OF ARTHURIAN MYTH into a SHAGGY DOG STORY.
With a POP-CULTURE PUNCH LINE.
And you did it with LITERACY and REVERENCE.
You WIN.
You are the MASTER.
My mother, incidentally, is a devotee of both Mallory and the Shaggy Dog Story. The day the strip came out, I called her and read the strip's dialogue over the phone.
She laughed for almost a full minute.
You so win.
By the way, I know I've heard the "everything was going fine until the snake" version of the story before, but I can't remember the source. (Philistine that I am, it was probably mentioned in a sidebar in GURPS CAMELOT.)
The snake thing is in White, so it must be in Malory. Whether Malory originated it, I couldn't tell you, though I can probably confirm whether it was in the Vulgate cycle once I get to the copy of The Lancelot-Grail Reader that I keep in my car.
