Heh... I'm one of the "It's been messed with!" fans too, though not as rabid as most. I probably would have been happier had the movie been started over from scratch than to have the new bits stuck in, for the simple reason that I didn't see how they actually improved anything. Cleaning up some of the special effects? Sure, there were lots of artifacts and stuff left over. But to me that's part of the charm, like watching a stage magic trick after you know exactly how it's done: The thrill is being pulled into the fantasy, and as long as they pull it off, it's all good.
Eh, I suppose I'm being irrational, but I have a right to be, to a reasonable extent.
