- I was reading Somewhere On The Internet and the observation was offered that on Sherlock both John and Sherlock are bi-romantic but not bisexual. They're a couple, as Irene Adler suggested, but they don't realize it because they don't have any interest in sex with each other - John because he's not interested in sex except with women and Sherlock because he's not interested in sex with anyone.
I've somehow gotten through a reasonably broad career of reading things on the internet without encountering this "bi-romantic without bisexual" concept before, but I suspect there's something to it. I think it goes a ways toward explaining a lot of the buddy relationships we see on screen, and perhaps some of mine. - I heard recently that what the "Fair and Balanced" motto at Fox News really means is that they deliberately maintain a conservative bias in order to balance the liberal bias of the rest of the media. Though I seem to recall I heard this on The Daily Show, I also seem to recall it being reported as genuine and not as a joke.
I've also seen it observed Somewhere On The Internet that, when you review the history of civil rights movements - anti-slavery, women's equality, freedom of religion - what's revealed is a constant (though never complete) progress from less liberal to more liberal society. What that suggests to me is that the supposed liberal bias in the media isn't in the media; it's in what the media reports. It's in the world. - I don't share the popular antipathy toward STAR TREK V but I still hope that Cumberbatch hasn't been cast as Sybok. I was reflecting on another's observation that Cumberbatch would make a good Romulan, and the thought came out of nowhere.
- I wonder whether I ought to watch some Nightmare on Elm Street before I put Freddie Kreuger in a Hero of Three Faces.
