Ten years of triangles
Jan. 5th, 2012 04:29 pmI didn't realize it because I kept forgetting to look it up, but a month ago today was the ten year anniversary of the first triangle fanfiction comic strip.
(From the period of my dailies when the Doctor's current incarnation was Rowan Atkinson's from Red Nose Day 1999. The woman in sunglasses is La original Femme Nikita.)
Of course I had originally invented the style for animated cartoons on an Amiga 500 with no hard drive and no extra memory; the first time I used them for comic strips was too early to realize that they need no longer be bereft of limbs for the sake of run speed. I adopted the triangle style for comic strips because I was without scanner capability, and line drawing with a trackball just doesn't work. (Drawing with a mouse instead of a trackball is a little better, but I didn't figure that out for years.) I keep using it because I like it. This is the one that convinced me I like it:
Interesting that both the very first triangle Daily and this one featured Angel, whose likeness I never felt I captured in line Dailies.
Of course this was still years before I realized triangle caricatures are best at only about two heads tall.
