Dec. 8th, 2011 08:54 am- RT @BorowitzReport I'm beginning to think that Sarah Palin has stayed out of this GOP race because it's beneath her dignity.
- According to the stats at http://livestrong.com, I can have a McDonalds Value Meal #2 for dinner if I eat nothing else all day. Not today.
- @ferretthimself On time travelers, of course. We've seen it.
- I just heard a program promo on the Planet Green channel describe the program subject as "legend - wait for it - dary".
- Hobbes must be real, because he gets the better of Calvin too often and too well to be a kid's imaginary friend.
- Ooo, this isn't Springtime on the DVR, it's Hot Lips And Empty Arms! #MASH
- Been picking up a couple three M*A*S*H reruns a day this week. Getting back to my roots
- Trying to think of an iconic image from my fandom pantheon to riff on for the last #AKOTAS hiatus 12/14 sketch that I haven't already done
- #AKOTAS sketch: blue moon. http://tinyurl.com/akotas/2757.htm #webcomics #kingarthur
- I never thought I'd miss Tristram. #AKOTAS
- The scanner is taking more'n its usual 0:30 to reset from failure. So, now, when proper AKOTAS is about scheduled to return, it dies?

Date: 2011-12-10 06:38 pm (UTC)The thing for me is, as Schulz and Milne knew, kids that age are too self-centered for their imaginary friends and their toys' imaginary personalities to relate to the kid as anything but a cult of personality. Note the pervasive attitude through the Pooh stories (even though Pooh gets credit for the ideas) of Here comes Christopher Robin, now everything will be allright. It was the same for me when I was that age.
(And it's largely the same with the Doctor as the author identity figure in the triangle cartoons. The Doctor gets all pithy punchlines about the characters from other shows, or about other fans' complaints about his show. Though it's hopefully a sign of maturity - as a writer anyway - that the other heroes get in their pokes at him too.)
When I voiced my thought about Hobbes during the run of the strip, someone I know rebutted, "Maybe Calvin doesn't have the same high self-esteem as you!" But you only have to look at the cartoons Hobbes isn't in to refute that.
