I wonder that about all spam. Do people do it because it works, or because it's easy? IS it easy?

As I understand it, a lot of spam is actually being done by "internet marketing" outfits - the company being advertised does it because they've been persuaded it will work, and the marketing outfit doesn't care whether it works or not because they get paid regardless.
