Everything Old is New Again
Jun. 20th, 2006 11:33 amJ. Michael Straczynski (Babylon 5) and Bryce Zabel (Lois & Clark, Dark Skies) have webpublished their 2004 Star Trek series proposal (in PDF). It's a TOS reboot, citing such precedents as King Arthur, Superman and James Bond. I've been saying for as much as a decade that that will, must happen eventually to Star Trek (and I could link to proof that I have if I were bothered to figure out what keywords to search for at Google Groups) - apparently at the same time JMS was thinking it. Of course, we know now the proposal was declined. No doubt the money men thought the public's not ready. But while creative people may be ahead of the public on these things, money men lag behind. And a reboot is one of the plans rumored by J.J. Abrams (Alias, What About Brian?), who's producing and may direct the eleventh film. Well, in any case, I feel hella vindicated (Straczynski and Zabel also fall just short of calling the studio idiots for allowing the franchise to be run by the same man for sixteen years, just in principle, regardless of who that man was).

Were the bigshots to change their minds now, they prolly couldn't get J. Mike and Bryce to produce it. Hell, for all we know, this is the premise J.J. is going with.
And now, the Devil's Advocate.
