When I was in first grade and we were taken to the school library to be taught how libraries work, I took out Winnie-the-Pooh. When I brought it home, my mother said, "But we have that." I was just not articulate enough to say, "If I'm going have my first library book, it's going to be Winnie-the-Pooh." Or, "It was the only book I could think of," whatever.

As far as influence of the book on my later years - just take the protagonist of my webcomic, put a few pounds on him and convert him from a human being to a stuffed bear and, well, there you are.

My favorite books as a kid were Roald Dahl books, particularly the Charlie books. I'm sure a major reason was cuz the folks would read 'em to me when I was having my bath. It's nice to have someone read to you (though I don't let people read to me while I'm taking a bath now).
