theferrett asked what's the best ever non-series finale season finale?, himself discussing both Avatar: The Last Airbender and Star Trek: The Next Generation.

The Best of Both Worlds Part One original airing was spoiled ruined for me by the VCR timer cutting off a minute or two before the end. I wrote my mother, "If we missed anything important, it was Picard appearing on the bridge screen covered in flywheels and rocker switches."

But to answer your question: I nominate the M*A*S*H season three closer Abyssina, Henry.

My personal favorites are the ones that could work as series finales. The Season 5 closer for Buffy comes to mind, as does the most recent season finale for Burn Notice.

I think I like those because they DO give a proper sense of closure for shows whose fate is uncertain -- and then, when the series continues, it's a bonus.
