Date: 2010-09-11 08:40 pm (UTC)I think you left a word out, there. Are you asking whether the date of Henry's death is in the dialog of Abyssinia, Henry? No, it isn't.
The voiceover at the end of the next episode, the fourth season premiere Welcome to Korea, states that Colonel Potter takes command "19 September 1952" (the following episode Change of Command was to air September 19, 1975). A few episodes later in The Bus, B.J. states he spent a week under Frank's command, which suggests Welcome to Korea was set September 12*. At the beginning of Welcome to Korea, Hawkeye has just spent three days away from the camp on R&R, which puts us back to September 9. Put in one more day for the camp to recover from the influx of wounded that was in the OR in the last scene of Abyssinia, Henry, and you arrive at September 8.
Anyway, that was my reasoning in 1975. Then we learn from A War for All Seasons that not only Potter's but Charles' arrival at the 4077th are previous to January 1951.
* B.J. also states in The Interview that he did several amputations before his first breakfast there, when dialog in Change of Command makes it clear that Potter's first OR session is also his. Must not be a morning person.
