Date: 2010-08-15 05:45 pm (UTC)Do you mean that they believe it only guarantees their rights, and not those of other people, or do you mean that they believe it only guarantees their rights, and doesn't specify other workings and operations of the government (along with less-pleasant things, such as its long enshrinement of the legal status of slavery in the highest law of the land)?

Or, the way I've phrased it in the past, though regarding only one of the rights in the Constitution, "A lot of people seem to think that 'freedom of religion' means the other guy has to keep his where you can't see it. Hello? Hello?"
