Writer's Block: Unfriended, Unspecified!

I've unfriended people without explaining why, except that I've put in my profile that I reserve the right to unfriend those who friended me first if I'm not engaged by their content, without offense. I don't know how I'd know if someone unfriended me, but I afford any such people the same courtesy as I assume of them in the policy in my profile.

My friend list has had people I really didn't even know on it. Those I've unfriended because I suspected they'd never notice.

I unfriended one guy because he dumped his cat and tried to justify it. I explained that to him in a private message, but it seems he never read the message. He accused me of being influenced by someone else we both were friends with who'd gotten fed up him.

You can choose to be notified of people unfriending you via the Manage Settings page - it's in the top section of options.

I've only twice proactively unfriended someone (ie unfriended them before they unfriended me) - in one instance it was because the person concerned was being really nasty about one of the Who actors, as well as their character. It was just so vitriolic that I walked away. I didn't say anything because it was their LJ and they're entitled to express their opinion there, but I couldn't stay around after that.

I've been dumped without explanation quite a few times - the year before last a small chunk of Classic Who fans all dumped me at once - I suspected that someone on who_anon was behind the dumping, but I never bothered to go and look.

Now that you mention it, I think I did that last month when I was gifted with paid membership. I don't think it was an available option till then.

Ah, you could be right - I've been a paid member for so long that I've forgotten what's (un)available to non-paid members...

I very specifically do not care who unfriends me. For one thing, the chances are they were strangers in the first place. Some people have friended me after catching comments I've made on fanfics, and they unfriend me later upon discovering that I don't use my livejournal to post porn.
