It's a bit like email, a bit like messenger, a bit like a wiki, and a few other things. Oh, and with a near-realtime semi-universal translator thrown in just for fun.
It's hard to describe Wave because while it can do a lot of things you can do already with other apps it has some things that are just new.
If you seriously want to know more about it here's a link to the unvieling at Google's I/O convention this spring. Google Wave Product Demo Word of warning though, it's just over an hour long. And there's not much fluff, it really did take them an hour to demo what it could do.
Thanks for the link. No, I was just suddenly seeing people requesting and offering invites back and forth on LJ and Twitter, and hadn't ever heard word one about it myself.
