To be fair, I don't think it was Alan Dean Foster's fault - it was before Empire came out, let alone Return, and I wouldn't be at all surprised to find that George Lucas didn't bother to warn him. (Assuming that George knew himself at that point.)

Moving on: Wonka-quoting Joker FTW!

I'm sure you're right about Foster and Lucas. I've seen quotes from Lucas that state he knew all along Vader was Luke's father (the context was nerving up to actually put the revelation in Empire). But I don't know what he'd decided about Leia when. The med bay scene in Empire sure shows that the characters had no idea, though Yoda's last line in that episode suggests Lucas had decided by then. Of course the gripping hand is, ignorant incest is no innovation to us Matter of Britain fans.

You know, that scene in Empire was ROTFL funny when I first saw it (which was when it first came out). But when I saw the Special Edition, the very same scene made me go, "EWWWWWWW!!!!!"
