I like this better than the other post-CoE Doctor-Jack meetups I've read, because it doesn't resolve or appear to resolve Jack's issues immediately, and because it leaves the actual Doctor-Jack interaction offstage which is somehow much more effective. Unfortunately, like the others I've read, it makes Jack a TARDIS traveller which I don't believe in. I can't believe it'll happen that way in the screensource, for obvious out-text reasons; and I can't see Jack hanging out with the Doctor now when he won't hang out with his team, after leaving the Doctor to go back to his team in Last of the Time Lords (even granting that part of Jack's present issues is that Gwen and Rhys are all that's left of the team). It might be good for him, probably would be, but I can't see him doing it, any more than Doctor Nine dropped in on Sarah Jane or Alistair. Though most of my LJ fanfiction has been future speculation rather than set during existing stories (or at least it seems that way, since future extrapolation was all I wrote during 2007, whereas my 1996-2004 fanfiction had none or almost none), and even though I don't believe in "canon", in general I still prefer my fanfiction not to deviate too much from its sources (or you might as well not be writing derivative fiction in the first place). Putting Jack in the TARDIS is too much of a deviation for me. Your mileage may vary. But seeing other's treaments of the situation is helping me formulate my own.
