Interesting that, just as SyFy is rebranding itself, BBCAmerica is promoting its new HD channel with Torchwood, Being Human and Doctor Who and calling it "the future of science fiction".

On one hand, I find that kinda amusing and neat. On the other, I--I love my import genre shows (and since when is Being Human science fiction and not urban fantasy), but I also want to watch homegrown stuff. So it depresses me.

Not because BBCA is saying that--I mean, what, ABC's gonna fight 'em for it? But because the one net we had isn't what it used to be. :(

No argument here. It's not like NBC/Universal doesn't own enough channels that they can't afford a specialty channel for an obvious culturally significant and popular genre. I guess, from the press release about it, their suits are just too lazy to counter the grown-man-in-his-parent's-basement stereotype rather than propagate it.

And the suits at NBC/U are going to be scratching their heads, wondering why more fans will be interested in what BBCA has to offer over the Syphillis Channel.
