Of course he still eyes the stars wistfully sometimes. Pete/Dad misses the days of setting his own schedule too. But that's nothing like the look in the Doctor's eyes right now as he holds the new baby for the first time.

"He was wrong," Rose realizes suddenly.

"What?" he says, looking up from the baby, but just for a moment. "What are you talking about?" He knows what she means, except he knows she can't mean that, so there must be more to it.

"Oh, he was right to leave you here," she says, "but he did it for the wrong reason and he'll never know."

"And why's that?"

"Because, you're not him broken. You're him fixed."

There's a classic Superman story, which I've never seen but probably dates from the Weisinger era, in which Superman gets split into two, Superman-Red and Superman-Blue, each of them in the standard Superman suit modified to remove the other's color. That's what I'm alluding to when I call the hand-generated Doctor "Doctor Blue".
