I'm uncertain of the meaning of the mountain of Skulls here (if this is from Gaiman's American Gods, I don't remember the scene).

It's from the dream Shadow has his first night in Lakeside, just after he's been told he must find the thunderbirds if he wants to bring someone back from death; the dream Wednesday wakes him up from because he'd been sent to Lakeside to lay low.
