Today's the forty-second anniversary of the premiere broadcast of Doctor Who. The attraction to me of the Doctor has always been that he's the protagonist of the most versatile premise for action-adventure I've ever seen. Star Trek can do a story about a planet with a society very like 16th century Japan, but being a time-traveler the Doctor can go to 16th century Japan. Or to a Star Trek planet, in fanfiction; a time-machine is an ideal facilitator for crossovers, which I love. The Doctor can go anywhere; and given his fantastic ability to change his appearance every time an actor tires of the part, he can be anything - but "never cowardly or cruel".

hehe. I used to love the Doctor Who shows that came on late Saturday nights on our local PBS station... when my mom would let me stay up and watch 'em. Fun fanfic!
