I usually remember my dreams only on mornings I sleep late, what I dream once I've awakened once and dropped off again.

This morning I woke up and told qtrhorserider, "I dreamed I bought a bottle of liquor from Jason the Ghost Hunter in his shop."

She burst out laughing. "You even pun in your sleep. What's another word for liquor?"

I can't recall any specific puns my own subconscious has come up with, right at this moment. But I do remember the feeling of rolling my eyes and groaning when I replay the dreams in my head after waking.

Puns may be the most basic of linguistic metaphors our brains can come up with.

I've heard that a lot of people pun in their dreams, whether they realize it or not. Usually they get called "metaphors", but this one I call a "groaner".
