Past Life Progression
Jan. 26th, 2008 10:14 amWe watched the DVRed BBCAmerica Life on Mars series finale and I'm a bit confused. I'd thought I'd understood from the spoilers and fanfiction I read when this first aired that Sam stays in 2006 when he gets back. I'd even thought there was a scene when he visits Gene in a nursing home, and I'd been looking forward to that, but on further reflection maybe that was rather one of the stories I read on LJ six or twelve months ago. (If you know the one I mean, link please?) I think I like this ending better, but I'd still like to have found out what happened to Maia.

In the UK the follow-up, "Ashes to Ashes" is about to start. That gives more information on Sam's eventual fate (won't elaborate because of spoilers) - and we revisit Gene with Skelton and the other DI (whose name I can't recall) in 1981.

Yes, but I mean, I thought he chose to stay in 2006. That could have been an interesting story too, without the setup that the Morgan in 1973 hadn't been such a reprehensible character needing thwarting.
(Speaking of which, did everyone notice that that character was named after the actor who played the Wizard of Oz?)

I'm sure you're right. I'd forgotten that, I guess; but, now reminded, I bet the writers included that episode precisely so Maia was taken care of and so they wouldn't need to deal with her in the finale.
