1/8: I see this as being much along the same line of logic as getting half way through a plateful of an unknown recipe-- and liking it-- until they learn it's cinnamon squid eyeballs or snail's feet in gravy or something and THEN getting grossed out. It's the exact same glop you were eating before you knew, why is it disgusting now?

Now that you know that the food transmuters need better shielding, just install the shielding and move on. Retroactively panicking only serves to screws up your blood pressure, as Merlin seems to know here.

Besides, regulation starts at home... If you don't stick your hand in the fire, you're a LOT less likely to get burned. (Hmm, that'd make a good t-shirt...)
