[livejournal.com profile] qtrhorserider always gets got them first so I've only just finished it. She told me that either it reads like fanfiction or the Doctor Who writers on our flists are better plotters than we realize.

page 1: Isn't this the first scene ever we've had narration from other than Harry's point of view?

I commented in the theater a week and a half ago that Rupert has gotten taller than Daniel. Then in several passages in Deathly Hallows I noticed that Ron is described as taller than Harry. Causality?

page 285: Today he might have been thirteen years old again, the only one who collapsed on the Hogwarts Express. The midshipman who was sick at Spithead?

page 367: I ought've known where he'd find the sword.

Lupin's was the only death that seemed to surprise me. At first. But then, he had to be with the other three in the forest.

To anyone who didn't like the ending I would say, "There's no other way it could end."

I've been avoiding spoilers for this (unlike Doctor Who, since it's not nearly as impractical or burdensome to avoid cuts on your flist for five days as it is to avoid your whole fandom online for five months) so, if you've made any relevant remarks that you think are particularly clever and worth repeating, here's the place.

Actually, most of the books start with a chapter from a perspective other than Harry's. The first chapter of the first book takes place on the day that Harry is taken to Number 4, Privet Drive and starts from the perspective of the Dursleys. Book four starts with the murder of the muggle groundskeeper in the house of Voldemort's father. Book six starts with the chapter where Cornelius Fudge visits the muggle PM. I forget if book five starts with something else, but I think it did.

I think Ron has always been described as taller than Harry, too. It's just not always been the case in the films.

I liked the ending fine. I'd just have liked the epilogue to tell us more about characters we already knew instead of introducing a boatload of kids and little else.

There's no need to fear... Jo is going to write a Harry Potter/Hogwarts compendium that will reveal even more of the wizard world and give us the lowdown on all the characters and their future.

I finally got mine!

Enthusiastic avoiding of HP fanfiction helped me a great deal.

But all the slashers are going to be deeply unhappy that a certain someone didn't change his whole entire life for love of James.
