Title: Small Soldiers 1/4

Rating: G
Setting/Spoilers: both franchises c. 1964

Summary: The Doctor was fascinated on a visit to Christopher Pike's Enterprise to discover in use a calender of negative dates, counting up to stardate zero. By accident or design the TARDIS places him on the Enterprise then; and the assumption of command by one James T. Kirk is not the most cataclysmic event of the day.
Notes: In the comments of The Yellow Age I was asked for Captain Kirk's initial encounter with the Doctor.

Date: 2007-05-24 01:52 pm (UTC)As stated in the story headers, this isn't the Doctor's first visit to the Enterprise; it's only James T. Kirk's first encounter with him.
"'Ship'?" was the first thing Spock ever said to the Doctor. The next time the TARDIS landed on the Enterprise after the Doctor's first regeneration, the Doctor reminded Spock of that in his attempts to convince Kirk's staff that he was still the same person. It was with that precedent that "ship" became the codeword between the Doctor and Kirk's staff for saying, "I know you don't recognize me but you know who I am so let's get all that out of the way."
In this case, it's the Doctor meeting Kirk for the first time in still the same face he had when Spock met him, so no question of identity requiring sorting out by codewords arises.
