There's a conflict, or at least a tension, preceived in webcomics culture between telling stories or gags. With AKOTAS, I feel what I'm after is making people laugh every day, but it can't be denied (though sometimes I do) that there's a story I'm telling too.

Today it occurred to me that the jokes I like best are character jokes, like I grew up on with M*A*S*H, and that therefore in order to make people laugh with AKOTAS in the way I want, I must tell a story because that's how characters are grown. It's not an either/or: I must create and maintain a balance. I wonder how effectively I'll do that, now that I've had the conscious realization; or how effectively I've been doing it without the conscious realization.

And here I am writing this instead of tomorrow's joke.
