Super Cognitive Dissonance Alan Moore's For The Man Who Has Everything was a Superman Annual twenty years ago (and more recently was made into an episode of Justice League Unlimited). It's about a plant that imbeds itself in your chest and does the same thing to you as the Nexus in Star Trek: Generations does. [livejournal.com profile] billroper made the observation at the time that it's interesting, of the three characters in the story who suffer the effects of the plant, only Superman suffers a vision that isn't in the end idyllic and pleasant. Thinking about the story last night, it occurred to me that that may be related to the fact that Superman was also the only one of the three who realized it was an illusion while he was still under the influence. "You're my son, and I love you, but I don't believe you're real." Damn, Moore's good.

Remember Me, Remember My Red Herring Thinking of pocket universes reminded me of the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode Remember Me. I seem to recall that that was one of two times that Dr. Crusher started to make a particular confession to Captain Picard but was interrupted and never got back to it. Can anyone remind me what the other time was? (Also, if you care, do you think she was going to confess she's always loved him or do you think she was going to confess that Wesley's his son? I think I know which camp Peter David is in, and you ought to too if you've read, I can't think of the title, his novel with Trelane in it.)

That time of year Yesterday was the thirtieth anniversary of my first date. Today would've been my parents' forty-seventh wedding anniversary.

TMI I've been having difficulty for a coupla days keeping my nasal passages clear of naturally-forming solid obstructions.

Alan Moore is indeed gifted.

There was an ST:NG episode where Picard and Crusher were .. bonded telepathically, I think it was. That's when they actually discussed the fact that they had the hots for each other (and of course they blew it all off, the cowards). I don't recall the name of the episode however.

on TMI: you may be a wee bit dehydrated. If you're running your heater in the house, it can dry out the mucus membranes, making what should be fluid turn solid, and cloggy. A humidifier can help. Just my 2cp worth.

Attached was the one where they were telepathically bonded, although I don't recall her coming close to making a confession in that one and being interrupted.

Q-Squared, the Peter David novel featuring Trelane and Q, although it did feature a love affair between an alternate Crusher and Picard, a) didn't, to my recollection, throw any doubt on Wesley's parentage and b.) was set in multiple alternate universes, so its relevance to the actual "main" universe is iffy at best.

My brother got me a nostril-cleansing Neti pot for Christmas, with which you're supposed to pour salt water into one nostril and out the other. No joke.

There wasn't really a confession. But I distinctly recall having them, at some point, say something to the effect of "why didn't you tell me you felt this way?" "He was my best friend, and then you were my best friend" and so on. Kind of hard to hide that stuff when you're attached at the brain, I guess.

By the end of the episode, when all was normal again, they decided to continue on as before, as friends only.
