Did you watch "Mister Roger's Neighborhood" as a kid (or adult)? And if so, do you remember the character "Robert Troll" (played by Robert Trow)?

... I think he was one of the germinating seeds of "Joyful Trolls" in my young subconscious.

...More people should know Robert Troll (and also Bob Dog, which Trow also played, but it was Robert Troll who lodged in my mind).
