Maybe it was fourth-wall, but I don't care. I loved it.

I do wish River would show up and stomp on those glasses, though. SONIC GLASSES ARE NOT COOL.

I saw Capaldi quoted to say part of his motive in choosing his outfit(s) was to make them easy to cosplay, coupled with the observation that dark glasses are easier to come by than sonic screwdrivers. I doubt they'll go before Capaldi does.

Also, River is known to rock a pair of dark glasses herself. Perhaps they were the Doctor's.
