Pretty much decided now to switch to the desk tower as my primary home machine because of the issues I'm having with the laptop. It is after all due to posts about past laptop issues that [livejournal.com profile] vainpageantry and [livejournal.com profile] ladydragondark decided to gift me the tower when they realized they wouldn't need it any more. The only thing that's kept me from doing this before now is there's nothing on the tower that will open the Excel spreadsheet that's where I track my daily ticklers and my cartoons as I draw them. I don't want to subscribe to MS Office 365 because I don't trust clouds, but I may resort to it as a stopgap till I can afford local Office.

You could try something like LibreOffice?

I've found it sufficiently sufficient for my everyday Office-file-opening needs that I never did get around to installing MS Office on my home computer. (I haven't tested it with any spreadsheets containing elaborate calculations, though.)

Have you tried Open Office? It has a spreadsheet program called Calc. Most things translate but some things get garbled. Also, Google has a spreadsheet program, too. It is cloud based but it works well.

I understand. I'm still using Office 2000 on my Windows 7 pro machine. Word has an odd glitch but still works. The rest of the suite still works fine. But I know that when I end up going to 10 that it will cease to work anymore. Not looking forward to that.
