The landlord where I am, where the rent is about two thirds of my monthly income now that I'm on my own, responded to my 30 days' notice by offering to knock off about twenty percent for six months. I told him I'd like to take three days to crunch numbers and stuff and think about it. It's sure tempting. I loathe moving and am likely if not certain to seize any chance to procrastinate, and as he pointed out to me it would mean not moving in winter. The drawback is, by June I'll certainly have run through what I now have in savings that I was trying to hold on to for moving expenses; but there are family who've offered to help out generally and with specifically that. The gripping hand is, this'll give me a chance before I move permanently to find out whether I can after all get by with paying slightly more for rent than I thought I could afford without a savings cushion, when that slightly more might make the difference between a rock bottom place and a place where a bachelor and two cats will actually fit.
