There's an idea. Were you thinking to do it in multiple movies?
On the down side, as with most really good science fiction, the action in the middle, and the resolution is more on the diplomatic side. Not really blockbuster material, as Hollywood sees it.
Multiple movies... no, I say Mote would work best as a tv miniseries so it wouldn't have to be cut or broken up over years. Maybe on one of the premium cable channels. That'd ameliorate the disparity in action scenes between the middle and the end, too.
Frankly, Harry Potter should have been a TV series. Do each book as a season; that way, you get to ADD stuff instead of leaving it out. And we'd get to see the Hogwarts kids doing stuff that wasn't Absolutely Essential To The Story Arc -- going to classes that don't have Major Plot Impact, and the like.
I actually agree with that, although the first two books might be done as a single season. THere's definitely enough material in the later ones to make a proper TV series. (And it would mean they wouldn't have had to mangle the TriWizard Tournament so badly. That was really the shame point of that movie)
Ah yes, many's the time I wished for a book to me made into a premium cable series. Sure, I wouldn't be able to watch it right away, but at least it would get the budget it deserves.
