I can grade papers with the right programs running. The entire Planet of the Apes movie collection, for example, is great for grading. Other programs, OTOH, are too distracting.
What were you watching? Sufficiently different parts of the brain might not be in use if you're reading theology and watching anything that deals even remotely with spirituality, ethics, morals, relationships, etc.
I don't remember what we were watching the last time I tried to read theology with the tv on, because we were catching up on the DVR and knowing what day of the week it was tells me nothing.
