A friend of mine once got an Eastern Spotted Newt and named it Martin Heidegger. Martin lived in a goldfish bowl and refused to eat. My friend tried many different foods recommended for depressed salamanders, but in a few weeks Martin successfully starved himself to death.

I thought that might brighten up your philosophy studies.

We had a guinea pig named Martin. Originally it was named Martha, but... We'd named the two guinea pigs Abby and Martha after the little old ladies in Arsenic and Old Lace because it wouldn't've been politic to name them after my aunts.
