I've figured out why I didn't get Twitter initially but now it's my primary social network. People were using it the way they use Facebook (one of the comments on my LJ entry linked above called Twitter "Twitter is just like facebook without everything that sucks", by which I guess they meant the Facebook "status" function thing) (I'm still not on Facebook), but I use it like IRC.
