Seven Habits of Meme-Tagged People

blinovitch got me:
A. List seven habits/quirks/facts about yourself.
B. Tag seven people to do the same.
C. Do not tag the person who tagged you or say that you tag "whoever wants to do it."
- The first and last time I tagged others in an LJ meme, none of them responded and I resolved not to bother again. I'm still deciding whether I'll tag anyone for this meme despite its explicit instructions.
- I like to have air moving when I'm in the car, but I don't like it blowing on me.
- I've retained the habit from when scarfkids were in elementary school of getting up at five in the morning, just because I'm used to the me-time.
- I've been wondering lately where my instincts for writing (as opposed to drawing) crossovers, or writing in the whole of Doctor Who's history instead of only writing in the near future, have vanished to.
- Actually yesterday I drafted a short dialog between the Doctor and Peri, that pretty unequivocally constitutes 'shipping them, which is something I've never done before, to the Doctor and his companions. Stay tuned.
- The 'ship I have written before is Archer/T'Pol/Tucker. I suppose I ought to create an index page for those stories and cartoons so I have a link for cases like this. It all starts with Eight is Enough.

When I was sifting through the major Buffy fanfic archive in the late nineties, I remember noting how so many writers kept trying --knowingly or not -- to anticipate developments in the show: the fic where Miss Calendar's first name is Jenny, all the follow-ups to Prophecy Girl, all the Buffy/Xander stories that kick off with Xander motivated by the "Bad Girl dance" in When She Was Bad to pursue Buffy seriously, etc.
It's a kind of zeitgeist-cruising and I've yet to really figure it out.

Date: 2007-09-05 09:13 pm (UTC)In my case I think it's an odd confluence between the new character for next season being a character we/I already know and therefore can write, and sharing the dissatisfaction many other LJ commentators and fanfiction writers have with some ways the Doctor's character has developed over the last year or so. I'm out to fix things. Perhaps everything pre-2005 I ever wanted to fix I've already fixed. And I know just enough about the future to intrigue and inspire me, without having to invent more than I'm comfortable inventing.
That there's no active Star Trek franchise at the moment is probably also a factor in my lack of crossover inspiration. Besides the Doctor, no characters from the top tier of my crossover pantheon are active on tv right now except young Clark Kent. Which is almost the exact opposite of the situation when I started posting fanfiction to Usenet ten years ago: then, the only two top-tier franchises that weren't on tv were Doctor Who and M*A*S*H. Maybe I need to set the DVR for BVS/A reruns.
