When I was about 20, at my former college roommate's home I briefly met a couple one of whom was a commercial artist by trade. She told me it stops being fun when you're being paid.

After spending six months completing a ten-drawing commission from someone I know at church, and despite her satisfaction with my work, in retrospect I think one of the smartest things I've ever done was to be unduly influenced by this casual remark from a complete stranger whose name I don't remember and whom I never met again.
