Today's the fortieth anniversary of the first of what I'm pleased to call my daily cartoons. Since the end of Arthur, King of Time and Space, I've put in some effort to be able to say, with what I at least consider reasonable certainty, that I've averaged drawing and displaying a cartoon a day since 1976: either carrying them around in blue binders or sketchbooks or posting them on the internet, the stretches of no cartoons compensated for by the stretches of two or more cartoons a day. And at The Hero of Three Faces for the past few months, for the first time since embarrassingly long before the last day of AKOTAS, I've been waking up each day assuming there'll be a new cartoon and most days there actually is. On days when there hasn't been either a new Three Faces or a new Creative Process I've knocked out a sketch and posted it to Tumblr. But you know what, forty years is a lot and I think I've proven anything I wanted to. I'm not going to worry about that any more. So I'm celebrating by taking the day off.

twitter highlights

  • The only way we'd be unable to tell which timeline the new Star Trek series is on is if it has an entirely new stardate system.
  • Do I want fishsticks for supper badly enough to put on pants and go get some?
  • If there had been no timeskips at AKOTAS we'd now be in the middle of one time that was skipped.
  • Or condensed. The "sketch hiatus" sketches were all set in the time being skipped, prorated for the hiatus length.
  • Right now we'd be at a time between this one and the next one: http://www.arthurkingoftimeandspace.com/2615.htm
  • One of the cats thinks the center of the narrow corner hall is where several beanie babies belong.
  • a half hour nap at 21:30 might not have been the bright thing to do but maybe I can finish that cartoon now after all
  • Napping and then drawing worked well last night. Let's try it again.
  • OMG DANCING MEN #elementary
  • Phe frequency that two-item shopping lists send me to both far corners of the store irks me.
  • Somebody asked me whether The Force Awakens is really two hours and forty five minutes and I had to say, "I dunno."
  • Today's shopping list: cat litter and toilet paper. Something for everyone.

Say, anybody else experience or know of a case like this:

About three weeks ago I got an email at my Arthur, King Of Time And Space address with a subject heading directing it attention of the CEO, and purporting to be from legal counsel of some outfit in China who are interested in registering the domain name arthurkingoftimeandspace.cn and the keyword arthurkingoftimeandspace in China, against the advice of himself their legal counsel since obviously arthurkingoftimeandspace.com is already years in use. Long story short, over the course of three back-and-forths with this supposed legal counsel or his supposed client (good cop-bad cop?), I told them that I'm not a corporation but just this guy drawing cartoons and putting them on the internet, and I have no awareness of or interest in exercising what right I might have to the things they were asking about, especially if it entailed any expenditure to me. I also asked each of them out of curiosity what their interest is, but neither responded to that.

Is this a(n attempted) scam? If so, how is it meant to work, when they pick a mark who has any money? Whether it's a scam or not, am I in any danger of losing what rights I have for not having protected rights I didn't conceive having any use for? At the moment my domain registration should be effective till next May seventh.

You can't have too much diversity. There's centuries to make up for.

Today I miss AKOTAS enough to wonder how the spreadsheet formulas would have to be updated.
There are all those years I skipped over.
The trick may be to get enough distance from AKOTAS so that writing it feels like writing fanfiction.
In the 90s I did that with Dailies characters from the 80s.

Reviving AKOTAS as daily gags again is an attractive prospect (assuming any revival), but today I'm thinking no, better some new format.
On the other hand, tryna do AKOTAS as a novel only reminded me that gag panels are my best thing. Hmm.

I've given up on following webcomics, I think. I stopped keeping up with my daily trawls around the time my wife went into palliative care because it was feeling like a chore. Attempts to take it up again since she died - even just weekly, even only my top favorites - have all petered out. Every once in awhile I wonder what's going on with those characters, but it's been weeks since that was enough to drive me to actually look. I think it's part and parcel of the same thing I realized about Arthur, King of Time and Space about halfway through its run, that led me to drop drawing general interest comics a few months earlier than I dropped reading them: though comic strips are how my fanfiction is best manifested, it's fanfiction rather than comic strips I'm most interested in and satisfied by and always has been. I'll always wonder what would have been different and better today if I had realized this in 2004, or 1995.

Looked up an AKOTAS gag and suddenly I'm rereading the last year. Perhaps this'll be AKOTAS week at 3Faces.

Still getting mail in my wife's name of course. Seed catalogs and life insurance offers.

I wonder how much bother it would be, or how useful to readers, to have the chronological archive index broken down by sourcework too.
