Comments in others' LJs roundup
theferrett defended The DaVinci Code as a "pageturner" despite any flaws This week
qtrhorserider has been shouting at experts on History Channel shows, "It's fiction! You're so smart, look up the definition of 'novel'!!"
I'm rereading it right now in anticipation of seeing the movie. Except I'm imagining the Doctor in the place of the lead (the Paul McGann Doctor, because he was the current latest Doctor in 2003 when the novel came out).
drake57 did a "name ten fictional worlds you'd like to live in" meme You know, I wouldn't want a world of adventure. I'd want a world with live-action-quality home computer animation where all my favorite video folklore was nonexistent or public domain, and maybe I could be a broadcast video producer to make a living. Star Trek or Known Space or ... I dunno that I could think of ten of them.
Ziggy inspired theferrett to wonder what popular thing don't you understand I can't think of anything that inspires apathy in me so intensely that I can't see what others see in it. Not even reality tv. In fact, even as I write this comment, it occurs to me that one good thing about reality tv is that it offers us real-life heroes. Vapid shallow twentysomething real-life heroes for the most part, but it offers a replacement for the present-day public figure who can't keep a clean image only because s/he has the ill luck to live at the dawn of the Communication Age - a replacement that doesn't get you labeled Trekkie.
Not that I mind being called Trekkie. You learn more about the other guy letting him call you what he wants.
qtrhorserider told the tale of her riding accident (she's fine) Good for you getting back on the, uh, horse... So that's where idioms come from.
