Hmm, the first one sounded like a heartbroken young man who has just been told by his beloved's father that "you ain't good enough for my daughter".

This one sounds more like a jilted ex.

I must say I liked the first one better. Still it's your work, you can do with it as you please.

The jilted ex - or jilted best friend, since I'm not a slasher - was what I was after. I realized just after I posted the first version that it was ambiguously phrased and left the other interpretation open. That is, assuming the reader even picked up that "her" meant Susan, which neither of the first version's commenters did. This version clears that up too.
