I want to see Ghostbusters remade with Marx Brothers impersonators. Groucho as Venkman, Chico as Spengler, Harpo as Stantz, Zeppo as Zeddemore, Margaret Dumont as Dana. All you'd have to do to the script is remove Stantz' lines.
"I have lots of people waiting to abuse me."
"That-a would have worked if-a you hadn't-a stopped me."
Not sure. I'm only answering to reiterate (not that I'm aware anyone who reads this journal is guilty of the offense, but some things bear repetition on principle) that it's an error to equate fanfiction with plagiarism. Fanfiction is derivative work, and the definitions of derivative work and plagiarism are two different things, legally.
Also, while fanfiction is coming through common usage to mean any derivative work, it used to mean unlicensed derivative work of a copyrighted property, and I at least still use it that way exclusively. At least till we get a new work for the latter definition.
I've no desire to go through any of this a second time.
If angels or aliens held a gun to my head, maybe I'd go back to the mid- or late- 90s and be one of the founding fathers of webcomicdom and make a living at it. Or maybe I'd skip the second order of fries last night for the sake of yesterday's calorie count.
When I was in first grade and we were taken to the school library to be taught how libraries work, I took out Winnie-the-Pooh. When I brought it home, my mother said, "But we have that." I was just not articulate enough to say, "If I'm going have my first library book, it's going to be Winnie-the-Pooh." Or, "It was the only book I could think of," whatever.
As far as influence of the book on my later years - just take the protagonist of my webcomic, put a few pounds on him and convert him from a human being to a stuffed bear and, well, there you are.
It's come to mean victory for the terrorists to me. The divisiveness in this country right now, the religious persecution being committed by a country founded by people fleeing religious persecution, is exactly the kind of thing the attacks were intended to foster. Glen Beck is bin Laden's greatest US ally. Why do you think there haven't been any more attacks? The first one served.
